Building Trades and Construction Pathway

Sophomore:

 

Introduction to Woodworking

 

This course is designed to prepare the pre-apprentice level student for an entry level or apprentice position in the woodworking industry. For other students who do not contemplate woodworking as a career, skills that can be used life long. Students will be introduced to basic drafting and basic construction of cabinets, furniture, and decorative accessories. Students will construct models and/or full size projects as time and resources will allow. This course can be repeated for credit.

 

Junior:

 

Home Improvement

Home improvement is designed to provide all students an opportunity to develop survival skills as homewoners and renters. Major units will emphasize troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and upgrading of specific areas, within the home and in the yard. Students will build and repair actual prototypes of common household systems.

 

Senior:

 

Construction Technology

Students will have hands-on opportunities to learn all phases of basic residential construction, including carpentry, drawing and reading blueprints, drywall, electrical, flooring, painting, plumbing, roofing, tile setting and welding. Students will have the opportunity to perform a practical application of their knowledge and skills in a field-site construction project.
