College Athletic Eligibility

Want to play college sports?

You must REGISTER with the NCAA Eligibility Center or NAIA Eligibility Center

What happens when I register with one of the eligibility centers?

  • Registering with an eligibility center verifies your academic qualifications and maintains your amateur status, ensuring you meet the rules for collegiate sports. It’s also a prerequisite for receiving athletic scholarships and taking official visits to campuses.  To determine which center to register with, please the check intending college online athletic page for additional guidance.

Why Register?

  • Academic and Amateurism Verification:

The primary purpose is for the NCAA to confirm you meet the academic standards (e.g., high school GPA, core courses) and have maintained your amateur athletic status.

  • Enabling College Play:

You must be registered and certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center to compete in Division I or II sports.

  • Receiving Aid & Official Visits:

Registration and certification are required to sign athletic aid agreements (scholarships) and to take official visits to DI and DII schools.

Even a free Profile Page provides a unique NCAA ID number, which can be shared with college coaches for recruiting questionnaires.

  • Provide Visibility:

Registration offers student-athletes national visibility and awareness of the opportunities to play sports

NCAA Eligibility:

  • To meet NCAA initial eligibility, you must graduate high school, complete at least 16 NCAA-approved core courses, achieve a minimum core course GPA (2.3 for Division I, 2.2 for Division II), and register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. You will also need to pass a background check for your amateurism status and meet specific academic requirements before starting your first year of college.

NAIA Eligibility:

  • To meet initial eligibility for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), students must register with the NAIA Eligibility Center and meet at least two of these criteria by high school graduation: a 2.0+ GPA, graduating in the top 50% of their class, or scoring at least 18 on the ACT/ 970 on the SAT.
