Los Medanos College: Dual Enrollment

What is Dual Enrollment?

Los Medanos College offers college courses to high school students, at Liberty, during their regular school day!

These courses are called Dual Enrollment courses.  Students begin by requesting the desired dual enrollment classes as part of the school’s January Course Registration process.  Next, students must apply to LMC college and complete their process to enroll in these special classes.  Dual enrollment seats are available on a first come, first served basis.  Students who plan to start at a junior college after high school are strongly recommended to consider taking Dual Enrollment classes.

What Dual Enrollment classes does Liberty offer?

FALL: (*Chem 006 is a year-long class)

SPRING:

How do these classes work in my Liberty schedule?

Classes are scheduled 1st and 5th periods, which takes up 2 of a student’s 8 classes.

The following classes are “married” and must be requested together, as a set, on the course request form.  Classes are taught 2 days a week from 8:30-10am:

-FIRE 101 +  ADJUS 110     (11th/12th graders)*

-SIGN-50  +  SIGN-51    (10th - 12th graders)*^

-SJS-110  +  ANTHRO-006   (11th/12th graders)*

*11th/12th grade students will not attend school from 8:30-10am on non dual-enrollment class days.  (Example: if you have a dual enrollment class on Mondays/Wednesdays from 8:30-10, you are “unscheduled” on Tuesday/Thursday/Fridays)

^10th graders are not allowed unscheduled periods and will be scheduled to attend study hall on non dual-enrollment class days

Chem 006 takes up 1 period in a student’s 8 period school-day and follows the regular bell schedule.  Students must have taken and passed Algebra 1 with a C or better to be eligible for the class.

How do the credits/units work?

Students who complete a dual enrollment course with a grade of C or better earn both college units (see above) and Liberty credits (3.33 credits/units)

How do I get a seat in a Dual Enrollment class?

Interest is communicated to counselors by including the course(s) path of interest within the Course Request process in January.

I requested the Dual Enrollment class(es) on my course registration form, now what?

Check your LUHSD email for all Dual Enrollment updates!  You can do this by logging into Clever à Office 365 à Outlook.  Updated Dual Enrollment details and directions will be sent in March. (Students who earned a seat will also receive additional information in July and December.  Please keep checking your school email for more info.

Do I need to wait for a workshop/email to apply for a Dual Enrollment class at Liberty?

No.  Dual Enrollment workshops are usually held at Liberty in March, just before break, for students who need additional support with their application process.

However, you can do it on your own following LMC’s DUAL ENROLLMENT STEPS.  But you do need to make sure that you complete ALL the steps!  Scroll to the bottom of the LMC website linked here to view your next steps as noted below.

Once students have completed LMC’s dual enrollment process, they can view their online Orientation to get better acquainted with the ins/outs of the LMC systems.

I want to take Chem 006.  How do I show LMC that I have completed (or will complete) Algebra 1 with a C grade or better?

After completing the dual enrollment process, students can complete the Guided Self Placement.

What if I have a 504 or IEP.  Can I still get extra help in my class?

Yes!  LMC has a Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS) center that helps students with accommodations.  Follow the directions on their DSPS website to start their process.
